Colorado monsoon season is coming (yes, that's a thing); and with this being an El Niño season, we can expect a bit more moisture than we're used to this time of year.

The monsoonal flow of tropical moisture is a hallmark of late-summer weather in the Rocky Mountain West, where massive storms set up like clockwork almost daily in July and August. But this year an El Nino cycle, which pushes coastal moisture over the mountains, will add more water to what might be an already robust monsoon, said Mike Baker, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Most of the state has been drought-free for months, according to The Coloradoan, and this extra moisture should help keep us there.  However, in northern Colorado wildfire burn areas will probably increase the risk of flash flooding.

So enjoy the extra moisture; but don't forget to stay safe!
