Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Prospect and Shields Thursday (January 22) morning in response to a pedestrian who was struck by a car. The impact of the accident tossed the 40-year-old pedestrian several yard while shattering the driver-side windshield of the red Ford sedan. The name of the man has yet to be released, and was transported by Poudre Valley Hospital EMS to Medical Center of the Rockies (MCR).

It is still not known who had the right of way according to the Coloradoan. Both directions of Prospect have been closed east of Shields and west of Whitecomb while the investigation is in progress.

(UPDATE January 23) The pedestrians name has been released. Thirty-year-old Kyle Hibler is currently in critical condition at MCR. The investigation is still on going as authorities are trying to determine what happen, as it is not clear who had the right of way and who was at fault. At this time, drugs or alcohol are not to blame and they are even looking into traffic light cycle timing. The driver of the sedan, Christopher Gribble, was not injured in the accident.

(UPDATE January 26) Kyle Hibler, the pedestiran who was struck by a car last Thursday morning has succumb to his injuries and died. He was being treated at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where he was in critical condition. According to the Coloradoan, the Larimer County Coroner's Office confirmed that the cause of death was blunt forced trauma. Fort Collins police are still investigating the accident to determine if Gribble should be charged.
