A Cheyenne couple is facing multiple drug charges after a month-long investigation by police.

According to an affidavit, Cheyenne Police Department detectives had a confidential informant buy $50 worth of heroin from 55-year-old Steven Atwell on March 12 after learning that Atwell had been selling meth and heroin in the area.

Between March 12 and April 9, detectives conducted regular surveillance on Atwell and noticed behavior consistent with drug distribution.

Atwell and his girlfriend, 40-year-old Jodi Nelson, were arrested on April 9 after detectives found 7.2 grams of heroin in Atwell's bag, 14 grams of meth in Nelson's purse and 3.4 grams of cocaine in a backpack in Atwell's car.

The two were also being sought on warrants -- Atwell on a felony warrant for parole violation and Nelson on an active municipal arrest warrant.

Nelson, who was charged with conspiracy to deliver meth, felony possession of meth and third-offense possession of a controlled substance, reportedly told police that she was holding the meth in her purse for Atwell. She's facing up to 32 years in prison if convicted.

Atwell is charged with felony delivery of heroin, misdemeanor possession of heroin, conspiracy to deliver meth, possession with intent to deliver meth and heroin and felony possession of meth, heroin and cocaine. If convicted on all eight charges, he could face up to 102 years in prison.

Atwell's bond was set at $20,000 cash and Nelson's at $10,000 cash. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 18 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
