I noticed my son noticing TV for the first time when he was 8 weeks old.

There was no doubt. He was staring right at it. Sex and the City was on.

Hey, there was a lot of screen time for us in the first part of parenthood due to the fact that we had to sit there and hold him every time he ate. We did it in the TV room, with the TV on.

So, with me, it was the NBA and MLB channel. With Sarah, HGTV and Sex and the City.

When we could tell he was looking past it, or wasn't aware of it, we would watch our favorite programs while we fed him.

From the beginning, I considered the sound that was coming from the TV in regards to what we would allow to be on with him in the room. So, no carnage, horror, war, shooting, excessive arguing, swear words, etc. I didn't want his first introduction to language to be from Snooki, Cartmen, Family Guy, an angered news person, or many of the other crazy people from TV.

But very early in his life, he couldn't focus on the screen. His head would tilt in that direction but I could tell he wasn't looking at the screen. Then, one day, he did.

He saw it and he stayed with it. Not that I can blame him. TV does the same thing to me.

I will use the TV as a babysitter. It baby sat me for much of my life. I'm just not sure at what age I should start all that.

What did you do?
