Contract talks between the Denver Broncos and star linebacker Von Miller have now slowed.

The Broncos set a deadline of 10 pm Tuesday to reach an agreement on a long-term contract with Miller, who was the MVP of Super Bowl 50, where they offered him a six-year, $114.5M deal to Von Miller that includes $39.8 guaranteed in the first two years, according to Adam Schefter from ESPN.  Both sides do not seem to be close to a deal.

Some are reporting that Denver's self-imposed deadline of 10 pm Tuesday may cause the deal not even to happen, but NFL rules (collective bargaining agreement) usually gives teams until July 15th to work out deals with their franchised tag players.

Pause.

What is a franchise tag?

A franchise tag is a designation that a team (Denver Broncos) may apply to a player (Von Miller) scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. The tag binds the player to the team for one year if certain conditions are met.

An option still on the table and one we don't like, Von can decide whether he intends to play for $14.129 million, or he can even sit out the season, and that would prevent the Broncos from again applying the "exclusive" franchise tag next year.
