Chipotle Closing All locations Nationwide For a Day in February
Chipotle, one of my main go-to places for a quick bite. I don't even have to look at the menu. I know exactly what I want. Every. Single. Time. I'll take chicken burrito on a flour tortilla, light white rice, light black beans, extra chicken, corn and hot salsa, cheese, topped with lettuce. That's how I like my foil wrapped lunch and I won't change my ways. With that being said, I haven't been there in a while...
Trouble started for Chipotle back in August when over 50 people were infected with Salmonella and 100 people contracted norovirus in Southern California. It didn't stop there. An E. Coli outbreak in October and November sickened people in nine states. Then again in December norovirus struck 140 customers at Boston college following another E. Coli outbreak in three states.
With all of the outbreaks in viruses and foodborne illnesses, Chipotle's problems didn't stop there. Customers filing suit after becoming ill, subpoenas have been served from the FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations, projected drops in sales and according to Chipotle, possible losses of 14 to 16 million dollars.
The meeting which will close all Chipotles on February 8th, will focus on thanking employees, discussing changes going forward and also answering questions.
Chipotle's focus going forward to lure customers who might have been scared off due to recent events will be employing a new marketing campaign in February.
