It just seems weird that this one isn't already on the books, right? Police horses are animals as much as dogs are, I wonder why we are just now getting this new law passed.

The Denver Post has the story of a new bill that will protect Colorado's police horses, of which, we currently have 100.

Sure, It's not LIKELY that somebody is going to assault a police horse, but it sure doesn't seem fair that they haven't been protected like law enforcement dogs are.

House Bill 1041 was approved by the House and is now on its way to the Senate for approval. HB 1041 will add police horses to a law that protects police dogs and service animals.

The bill would make it a Class 1 misdemeanor when someone commits any kind of animal cruelty against a police horse.  It would be upped to a felony if the horse was mutilated, tortured or killed.
