There's no need to dissect the entire criminal justice system, but with stories like the one out of Alabama this morning, how can there not be some kind of reform.

Here's what is a bit topsy turvy when it comes to criminals and the crimes they commit. If a man, such as Timothy Ray Jones Jr., admits to killing his five kids, then why does he get due process.

If a man or woman is caught with evidence of a crime and admits to doing said crime, why then is this criminal not immediately sentenced and put away? Why does this criminal get to hang out in this jail, transferred to that jail, get a trial, get to negotiate the terms of the plea and then the right to appeal the outcome?

Is this writer just off her rocker? In the olden days things were quite harsh and just being suspected of a crime meant public hanging, that may be a bit too far to the 'whatever' side, but offering free council and so many rights to admitted criminals may be too far in the other direction.

In the case of Timothy Ray Jones Jr., he was pulled over for an unrelated reason and was found with bloody children's clothing, meth and synthetic marijuana making materials and seemingly under the influence of something. Jones Jr., then escorted police to a location where he said he dumped his dead children that he earlier killed. Police did find this to be true, in the sense that the children, ages one to eight, were found at the location in bags.

The 32 year-old Jones Jr. was divorced from his wife for nearly a year and had gotten full custody of the children. He was a computer engineer and working for Intel when he disappeared with the children. Authorities say that he killed the children days before being caught and had been driving from his home in Lexington, South Carolina with the dead children in his Cadillac Escalade before dumping them in a remote area in Central Alabama.

Jones Jr. has been charged with child neglect and is awaiting extradition to South Carolina from Mississippi where he has been held on drunken-driving charges. Authorities expect to add more charges. NUFF SAID (expect to add more charges and they started with child neglect when this man admitted to killing his kids and led police to their bodies, all individually stuffed into garbage bags)
