A new bill introduced last month aims to take the Federal government out of marijuana and let each state decide how they want to handle cannabis. It's about time!

The bill is called the Compassionate Access, Research Expansion and Respect States (CARERS) Act and has members of the Senate and House from both sides in favor of the idea.

The biggest issue at hand is to downgrade marijuana from a schedule I drug down to a schedule II drug. Many notable scientists across the world have already proven that the cannabis plant does in fact have a medicinal value and a schedule I drug has no medicinal value at all, so, something has to change.

Case in point for it having medicinal value?  GW Pharmaceuticals PLC- ADR (NASDAQ: GWPH) and Insys Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: INSY) both have cannabidiol drugs in their arsenal and even the Federal government owns a patent on a cannabis related medicinal product so it obviously can't be a schedule I drug. Does anyone really believe marijuana is as dangerous as Heroin or LSD?

I have always found it ironic that alcohol and tobacco kill more people than anything and they are made by man; nothing natural or medicinal about them so why aren't they schedule I drugs? Too many people profiting from the sales that's why! By removing the Federal government, it would save billions and also add the potential of billions being made on the use of the product.

Republicans and Democrats agree: federal law on medical marijuana is outdated, out of touch, and needs to change. Ailing patients deserve compassion, not prosecution, especially when they live in states that have legalized medical marijuana - Steve Cohen (D., Tenn.)

In my humble opinion, I couldn't agree more. Marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol and marijuana does in fact have a medicinal value. If a person is allowed to use alcohol as a recreational drug, that same person should be allowed to smoke a doobie. Keep in mind that I also believe it should be regulated just as hard as alcohol. Those who sell it in stores should be held to the same standards as a business who produces beer or alcohol. It should never be consumed in public, just like alcohol etc.

Marijuana has been around for 12,000 years and has a long history of medicinal use and it will be around another 12,000 years. Regulate it, tax it and let's all please move on.
