A man was killed Saturday (January 30, 2016) morning, after a woman was taken hostage, leading to a standoff with the Fort Collins SWAT team. According to the Coloradoan, 30-year-old Phillip B. Salazar was shot multiple times, after local authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Collins Aire Park, located at 401 North Timerline Road. The domestic call, quickly turned into a hostage situation, when the suspect disobeyed SWAT commands, and would not let the woman involved go, and barricaded themselves in the home.

Hostage negotiators were called in, however SWAT entered the room they were barricaded in, once there became an "imminent treat to the hostage." According to a statement released to the Coloradoan, "The suspect was advancing on the deputy, and the deputy believed the suspect had a weapon in his hand." This is what led to the deputy shooting the suspect an unknown number of times. The woman was not injured, and Salazar was pronounced dead at Poudre Valley Hospital. The circumstances that lead to the altercation have not been released at this time.
