The summer weather yesterday (August 23) made it the perfect setting to let the top down. Or off. In Denver's Civic Center Park, a band of (half) bare bodies gathered in the name of 'Go Topless Day.'

Go Topless Day was a rally in protest of gender inequality, which had both men and women bearing their breasts all across the country; most recently in Colorado. The holiday was recognized as the calendar nears Woman's Equality Day, August 26, the anniversary of the day women were granted the right to vote in 1920.

The event, organized by gotopless.org has been taking places annually since 2007, according to one of our staff members who, unexpectedly, ended up at last year's event.

I happened to be at the site of the 2014 Denver demonstration on August 24th. I was at Civic Center Park in Denver with my girlfriend and her mom for the final stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. As we walked away from those festivities towards the car, low and behold, here was this group of people- mostly women- not wearing any clothes above the waist!

According to the Coloradoan, there was an organized gathering on College and Mulberry for Go Topless Day, as Brittiany Hoagland promoted by standing topless on the corner of Elizabeth and Shields earlier this month. She donned a sign reading 'illegal to remove' across her bare chest.

I've got to say, it's hard for us to imagine living in a country where women didn't have the same voting rights as men. Does this mean our grandchildren won't know a life where women had to cover up, but men didn't?
