The amount of money it takes to be self-sufficient in Larimer County is alarming. From families with two working adults with two kids, to single families with three kids, how realistic is this number?

As the Coloradoan reported, a staggering $64,331 a year is needed for a family of four according to the Colorado Center on Law & Policy.

How realistic is this?

If you are in your 20's or 30's do you know make that much combined or individually?

To really break it down, it means both working adults need to be making at least $15.23 an hour for a family of four.

Even worse is that as a a single parent, $26.94 an hour is what you would have to make to be self-sufficient.

Ouch.

So what is this figure really based off of? Housing, full-time child care for infants and preschoolers, before and after school care for school-age children, food, transportation, health care, taxes, some emergency savings and other miscellaneous expenses, such as clothing, diapers and more.

They do not include debt repayment, recreation or entertainment.

Either way, if you are not making this, you are not alone. The majority of us feel your pain.
