Many of us in the Denver metro have fought this stereotype for many years, but according to one study it's all true.

The Denver metro area, including the Fort Collins area, is one of the most pretentious in the entire country.

Cafe Valet, which provides coffee to hotels, did the study and released the findings this week. The study was put together using the following categories to come up with the results:

  • Number of Independent Coffee Shops Per Capita
  • Number of Yoga Studios Per Capita
  • Number of Art Galleries Per Capita
  • Number of Whole Foods Stores Per Capita
  • Facebook Audience Metrics

Walmart was also included in the study, but not for the same reasons as the criteria above. If an area had a low amount of the department store behemoth in a marketplace, that also played a factor.

Denver ranked fourth most pretentious when the study was done, trailing San Francisco, San Jose, and San Diego.

The least pretentious cities in America include Birmingham, Riverside, and Detroit.
