Bacteria and mold testing will soon be mandatory for marijuana.

Currently, there are tests done for potency, but there was no standard testing procedure in place to find out whether or not the herb people may be smoking or eating is free from problems.

As Colorado legislators grapple with the issue of how to standardize testing for potency, Gobi Analytical in Denver is going full steam ahead with their testing procedures. They are the first lab to be state certified to test marijuana for contaminants.

Marijuana buds can be contaminated with salmonella or other bacteria just like other things that grow on plants, and Colorado realizes that in order to establish any type of legitimacy or trust in legalizing a formerly taboo drug, they have to make it safe. People's opinion could be that it's not safe to get high, but at the very minimum, it has to not make users sick.

Gobi Analytical is one of the first steps in accomplishing that goal.
