An officer-involved shooting took place on Thursday night (Sept 20) at the Village at The Peaks in Longmont after a man resisted arrest.

According to the Longmont Times-Call and Longmont Police, Longmont officers had a warrant for the man and had tracked him to The Village, where he was outside the Regal Cinemas a little before 10 p.m.

The man, 28-year-old Gillie Thurby who was wanted on sex assault charges, pulled a handgun out of his waistband while officers were taking him under arrest; they had first used a taser on the man, then an officer yelled 'gun', and two of the three officers shot the man. He died on the scene.

The officers are on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
