Low pay continues to hamper the Laramie County Sheriff's Office's efforts to attract new hires.

With some regional law enforcement agencies offering incentives and signing bonuses and many in Northern Colorado paying higher wages, Capt. Linda Gesell says it's hard to compete.

"It's just hard to attract any people for this position because of that pay differential," said Gesell.

Gesell says she's hopeful county commissioners, who earlier this year approved a request by the sheriff's office to add four additional positions, will decide to dole out more dough for deputies down the line.

"We'll just keep trying," said Gesell.
