According to a fact sheet on Colorado mental health, 3 out of 10 Coloradoans need behavioral health care. That's a large amount of our population. Luckily there is an organization called Mental Health Colorado working on starting conversations across the state around mental health and the care needed. The Mental Health Colorado Listening Tour stops at the Old Town branch of the Poudre Library on Tuesday June 28th.

PRESS RELEASE June 17, 2016 DENVER - Mental Health Colorado is currently on a listening tour across Colorado. Our ‘Conversation with Colorado’ heads to Fort Collins on Tuesday, June 28th. We are going to communities in our state to engage more Coloradans in breaking through the barriers of mental health care. Andrew Romanoff, President and CEO of Mental Colorado, leads the discussion. We’ve already been to Pueblo and Greeley. At each stop we’ve had 60-70 people. People attending include mental health professionals, family members with people fighting mental disorders, teachers, representatives from the law enforcement community, city/county representatives and state lawmakers. Attendees shared their experiences with the mental health care system in the area. Barriers ranged from not even knowing where to start after a diagnosis, to trouble getting care. One success was the use of telepsychiatry to have better access to counselors. People share other positive points in care going on in their community as well. Mental Health Colorado hopes to compile the information from the tour to help make Colorado a national leader in addressing mental health and substance use disorders. We invite you share this information in the paper, on the radio and online. I will also follow up with a phone call to see if you’d like to do a preview next week. Please find event details attached. Thanks so much. And call or email me if you have any questions.
