Mountain Biking to Be Allowed in Rocky Mountain National Park

According to a story produced today by ABC 7/Denver, you'll soon be able to go mountain biking in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The National Park Service has finalized a report that would allow a 2 mile stretch of the park to be used for mountain biking. The stretch of allowed biking will be on the parks west side near Grand Lake. The trail will be the first in Rocky Mountain National Park to allow the activity to occur.

Mountain biking has not been allowed in the park since the Wilderness Act of 1964, which prohibited bicycles on the trails in the wilderness area of the park. However, biking on paved roads has been allowed over the years.

The rule started to become relaxed in 2012 when the park service expanded the use of bicycles in its parks which gave park superintendents the ability to ride their bikes on trails and roads.
