According to the Coloradoan, the site in downtown Fort Collins that currently has a Sports Authority occupying it will become a new grocery store once the sporting goods retailer moves to the Foothills Mall.

Loveland developer McWhinney has submitted the plan to the city for the parcel of land and met with city officials on Monday. There has been no announcement made on who the grocer will be to move into downtown.

The 26,000 square feet that would be used to house the grocer is small compared to the size of other grocery stores, which points the article into the direction that it could be a niche grocer to move into that space. Sprouts Farmers Market is one retailer that was mentioned in the story by the Coloradoan.

Sports Authority plans to move into Foothills at some point next year. Their current lease runs until June, 2016.

McWhinney plans to close on the parcel of land in January.
