The dismissal of a popular football coach at Fossil Ridge High School lead to a protest by students Monday morning who wanted to voice their opinion on the matter.

According to the Coloradoan, close to 40 students protested in front of the Poudre School District offices in support of their fired football coach Brian Tinker.

Students had hand written letters in support of the coach, which consisted mainly of football players from the team.

They were able to drop off their letters in the main office of the building, after they were told they were not going to be allowed in the building.

The Fossil Ridge fight song was sang in the parking lot of the district offices before they left, showing their pride for the school and for the coach who led them on the field.

Coach Tinker was released of his duties on Friday, without an explanation of why he was dismissed other than a "personnel issue", as told to the Coloradoan staff.

A petition is also being led online looking for support by not only students but also the Fossil Ridge community. It is looking for the immediate reinstatement of the coach. There are currently 644 signatures on the petition, as of 1:36pm MST.

Tinker coached Fossil Ridge for two seasons, going 5-5 in both campaigns and making the playoffs in each season. The team had never made the 5A playoffs prior to Tinker arriving as coach.
