If you've ever driven past the Berthoud exit on I-25, you've probably noticed the hilly, dirt motocross track that sits a little ways away from the road. Last year, the former Valley Dirt Riders Track closed after nearly fifty years of being in business, but come October, the moto park will rev-up and come back to life all over again. Brrraaaaap!

Now being called the Berthoud Moto Park, the motocross track is under brand new ownership and will feature a completely different design than what previously covered the 160-acre lot. Berthoud Moto Park includes a main dirt bike track that's 1.5 miles long, a shorter track for younger motorcycle riders with 50-85 cubic centimeter engines, and a third track for ATV and side-by-side four-wheeler use – each of these bringing exciting new thrills and challenges to dirt riders. Future plans involving a backcountry trail-riding experience, as well as a BMX track for bicyclists, are also being discussed by the owners, whom are all dirt enthusiasts themselves and greatly missed the track when it closed down.

Once re-opened, BMP will only be available to practicing riders, however, businesses will have the opportunity to schedule their races and events for spring and summer of 2017. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the track will be open from noon until 7 p.m. (or dark), and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Riders are required to wear safety equipment at all times. Memberships for the motocross track go on sale October 1, and cost $25 a year, or $20 for a daily pass. Season passes, which include the membership fee, are $399 for adults, $299 for children 12 and younger and $350 for senior citizens and members of the military, police departments and fire departments. The staff's goal is to be open by the third week of October. For track updates and more information, be sure to follow Berthoud Moto Park on Facebook.
