The last time we saw Greeley’s own Shane Carwin in the octagon he was beating the living pulp out of then UFC champ Brock Lesnar, but then ran out of gas and was forced to tap out by Lesnar. Lesnar later went on to fight Cain Velazquez and lost his title. Well, after almost a year away from the spotlight, Carwin is heading back into the octagon this Saturday night to fight Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131. The winner of this fight is believed to have the next shot at Velazquez for the heavyweight championship.

After the loss to Lesnar, Carwin has been focused on fixing his weaknesses. He has actually pretty much put him self in seclusion for the final week leading up to UFC 131.

From Greeleytrib.com:

Carwin has secluded himself in his training camp, has asked not to be disturbed by the media or even his posse in his final week of preparation for Dos Santos, like himself, considered to be a heavy puncher.

Carwin has amped up his training routine the past few weeks to include a 30-pound weight loss to help him with his speed.

His nutritionist, Josh Ford, has Carwin on a strict heavy carbohydrate/protein diet.

UFC 131 is Saturday night in Vancouver at 7 p.m Mountain time. There is a watching party at the Old Chicago in Greeley if you can’t make the trip to Vancouver on short notice.
