Dialogue on whether or not Eaton High School, and other schools in Colorado that feature a native American inspired mascot should change in whole or part to another choice is continuing.

According to TheDenverChannel.com, The Eaton Fightin’ Reds are one of 20 Colorado high schools with a variation of a native mascot.

Well, whichever way the pendulum swings on this one, it was nice to hear that the discussion about the future of the Fightin' Red was civil, respectful and constructive. Both sides seemed to understand that there are issues that need to be considered.

One is the depiction of the character that is the logo for Eaton. As other districts have decided that cartoonish depictions of people isn't as respectful as one that more truly represents them, they've enlisted the help of the tribes to redesign their logos to a more historically accurate and respectful portrayal. Eaton may keep the name and change the portrayal. They also may change the name altogether.

What do you think of this?
