The music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be celebrated with live shows in the very near future. Petty Fest, part of the popular Best Fests series that has taken place over the past 10 years, will bring together members of a generation of musicians who grew up listening to Petty's extensive hit-filled catalog.

Petty Fest NYC will take place on Oct. 24 at Webster Hall. Among the performers are Americana artist Justin Townes Earle (the son of Steve Earle and an excellent singer-songwriter in his own right), Jesse Malin, Delta Spirit andDevendra Banhardt, and there are many others are listed on the bill.

On Nov. 14 and 15, Petty Fest L.A. will be held at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Among the big names will be Pat Carney of the Black Keys, Ryan Miller of Guster and Harper Simon (son of Paul Simon). In addition to the names mentioned, the shows in both cities are likely to have surprise guests.

The Cabin Down Below Band, a loose collection of New York-based musicians that frequently get together to perform Petty's songs, will serve as the house band for concerts. The promoters are also looking to have a Petty Fest in San Francisco in 2013. All of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and the Musicians Cancer Fund.
