The afternoon commute could be worse than the morning drive.

According to Intellicast, on Monday, February 1st there is a 90-100% chance of snow from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. The overnight before and after are also filled with the chance of snow, so strap in, we could be in for a rough one. We woke with about 1/2 inch of snow, but they've upgraded the snow amounts to 4-8 inches through today.

Mike Nelson is the man with the weather plan around here, though, and he is calling for a 6-12 inch storm total (see video from TheDenverChannel.com)

A winter storm warning is in effect from now until Tuesday at noon. That's right, Groundhog Day. Could this blog post be leading to the storm of the century that cuts us off from all civilization and we all end up living the same day over and over again? I'm going to say that possibilities of that seem extremely low, but just as in that landmark movie that we should all watch between now and Tuesday at midnight (perfect snowy day plans!), if you have an afternoon meeting that is far away, you may want to make other plans.

As Mike Nelson said on TRI 102.5 FM:

Drive carefully, or not at all.

Tuesday morning will probably be trying as well

Snow is supposed to taper a bit Monday into Tuesday, meaning that at about 10 p.m. on Monday, the chances of snow go from a consistent 90% to between 70-40% for the rest of the night.

Still, the possibility of four new inches by Tuesday morning means we should keep our heads up. That's just enough snow to make it righteously slick. Really slippy, as we like to say in western PA.

The moral of the story is to be ready for anything from now until dinnertime on Tuesday.

The sun'll come out, on Wednesday

It won't be warm, but it should be sunny. The high is only around 26, but sunshine will melt the road and walkways, and we move one step closer to gardening and baseball.

The 'Warning' label makes it legit

Watch means conditions are favorable. Warning means the weather situation is imminent. It's happening. If we have a warning and it doesn't show, it's a bit of a surprise.

There is a Winter Storm Warning from Sunday night until Tuesday lunch. Imminent snowy dumpfest.

Enjoy traffic, closures, and all the info on this storm through all our domains!

School and other closures

They'll be on our home page, if and when they start hapenning. If the snow really starts causing issues by this afternoon, and there are early releases we'll post those as well.
