A couple is celebrating the future arrival of their first child after a Fitbit revealed the soon-to-be mother is pregnant.

YoungPTone, who identifies only as David, wrote about issues with his wife's Fitbit on Reddit last week. According to his post, the device was "showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days."

David told Buzzfeed his wife's resting heart rate would reach as high as 110 beats per minute.

"She logged 10 hours in the fat burning zone, which I would think to be impossible based on her activity level," he said, noting that she would burn no extra calories. "It's not lining up."

Some Redditors told him a recent firmware update caused heart rate tracking to be inconsistent. And then, another Redditor asked if it was possible his wife may be pregnant.

"Pregnancy is a strong possibility," said David. "I might be a dad, YIKES. Now I gotta watch my own heart rate."

The day after his original post, David confirmed his first child is due in October.

David says he and his wife had been trying to have a baby for a few months, but didn't know a higher heart rate was a symptom of pregnancy.

"It's definitely a great story to tell [the baby] one day," he said, adding he and his wife are "happy to have all the support of people on Reddit."
