If you were wondering where the winter weather was in Northern Colorado, it's knocking on our doorstep and will be a reality check for most of us.

The National Weather Service has issued a "Blizzard Watch" for both Weld and Larimer counties (along with the Eastern Plains) until 9am Wednesday morning. Officials say that the storm will move along Eastern Colorado late Tuesday night and will rapidly intensify.

Northwest winds will increase throughout the night causing blowing and drifting snow with driving conditions becoming dangerous as the night goes on.

Snow accumulations in the listening area could amount to the following:

  • Foothills Above 6500 feet: 4-7 inches
  • 6-12 in the mountain peaks
  • 2-5 inches elsewhere including Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland

Winds will blow 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph throughout most of the area, and could cause visibility to dip to zero during this time.

Officials say that Highway 287 from Fort Collins to the Wyoming stateline will be especially susceptible.
