Ever wish you could just skip the I-25 traffic and late-night drives back to Fort Collins after a concert or game in Denver? *raises hand* CDOT says that a rail connecting the entire Front Range is completely possible.

KDVR in Denver reported that Colorado Department of Transportation is looking to move forward with extending Denver's rail system not just to Fort Collins, but all the way south to Pueblo as well.

This wouldn't be the same as Denver's metropolitan light rail, however, because this one would travel much faster, around 80 m.p.h. (which is faster than we can ever go on the interstate on the weekend).

According to Streets Blog Denver, the route would run from Fort Collins to Longmont to Boulder, to Denver and then to Castle Rock, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. See the map here.

How much would it cost and when will it be done? Well, those are both questions no one has answers to... yet. But, I know I would certainly use a rail if it was affordable, and if it meant I didn't have to drive I-25. Streets Blog also cites a 2010 study that found the rail line feasible.

'CDOT officials do not have a price tag for the project yet, and say the earliest we could see it in place would be 2023,' KDVR reported.

You can read more about the project from KDVR here.
