It doesn't matter if you were born here, or if you got here as fast as you could. Colorado is known for being a paradise for those who love the outdoors, and two Colorado towns are listed in the top 20 "Coolest Outdoor Towns."

Matador Network did a ranking looking for the best of the best when it comes to outdoor spots that are actual towns. This means no destination locations that are seasonal. They also were looking for towns that outdoor activities were easy to access, not a thirty minute car ride away. Finally, they wanted the town to embrace the outdoor culture, having it be a major part of the local economy.

Not surprising, two Colorado towns made the list: Salida, coming in at number 4, and Fruita at number 12. Fruita is known as a mountain biker's paradise and a great destination to go rafting. Salida is the home of my personal favorite place to ski, Monarch. They may not have the resorts and shopping, but they have amazing runs, and you never have to deal with tourists. When it's not ski season, you can enjoy great biking trails and kayaking.

Personally, I have a soft spot for number 19 on the list, Brevard, North Carolina. I went to college in this small town that's located in the middle of the Pisgah National Forest. They are known for having more waterfalls than one can count, and many of them are easily labeled "majestic." It's a fantastic place to camp, hike, rock climb and kayak. If you're an outdoors lover, and you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend it.
