A Denver brewery is opening a tap room in downtown Fort Collins this spring.

Prost Brewing, known for its traditional German-style lagers, has been looking to open its tap room in Fort Collins for about a year, co-owner Troy Johnston told Denver Westword. The tap room now has a 1,500 square foot home at 321 Old Firehouse Alley, behind Illegal Pete's.

Prost will not be brewing beer at the Fort Collins location.

Fort Collins has been on Prost's minds for a while - 3 of its 5 owners graduated from Colorado State University and some of their children go to CSU, as well.

"It has always been on our radar and is a natural spot for us," Johnston told the publication. "We wanted to plant a flag in Fort Collins and tie into the community."

Prost plans to do some of its packing in its new Fort Collins space - recently, they began selling bottled beer in 12-packs. By year's end, Johnston says Prost could be brewing at a rate of 10,000 to 12,000 barrels per year.
