Officer-Involved Shooting Suspect Dies Overnight in Denver Hospital
Adrian Joseph Shaffer, the suspect currently under investigation for attempted murder of a Colorado peace officer, died early Sunday morning in a Denver metro-area hospital. Shaffer, 37, of Boulder, had been receiving on-going medical treatment for injuries he sustained after he engaged Deputy Teri Javes in a gunfight on Highway 287, south of Longmont, on September 10. The Boulder County Coroner's Office will determine the exact cause and manner of Shaffer's death.
Deputy Javes was uninjured during the gunfight, and remains on administrative leave from the Boulder County Sheriff's Department as the Boulder County Investigation Team continues to look further into the incident. After the team's investigation has been completed, their findings will be presented to the District Attorney of the Twentieth Judicial District, Stan Garnett, and Sheriff Joe Pelle. This is expected to happen before the end of the month.
