Starting today, you could have your food and beverage waiting for you by the time you arrive at Starbucks.

The coffee company rolled out its mobile order-and-pay app today, allowing customers to easily and conveniently save time picking up their order. Starbucks introduced the system in Portland, Oregon, late last year and has expanded it to 3,400 of its 7,400+ stores in the United States. The remainder of its locations begin using mobile order-and-pay today.

The app gives customers an estimated pickup time at any store of his or her choice - usually 3 to 5 minutes after the order is placed. Wait times and product availability at each store can also be checked.

Mobile order-and-pay is still rare, but could become increasingly common as fast food chains try to keep up with ever-changing expectations.
