Three of Matt Sparx’s Latest Photos

The past few days, my camera has been getting quite the workout! From sunsets in Johnstown to a 120 + mile round trip ride late at night to capture a storm in Fort Morgan. They all have been a great experience and making quality time with my wife along the way.

The first is from Sunday night. Off in the distance, looking out east, you could see what appeared to be a strobe light in a very large anvil looking cloud. Almost every quarter of a second there was a bright flash. I couldn't pass up the chance to capture it. We jumped in the car and headed out towards the storm on Highway 34. We were only a few miles away from Fort Morgan before I was content with setting up shop on the side of a road right next to a wheat field. I probably took a good 45 photos before getting this one that I was happy with. Three lightning strikes in what looks like two separate storms and the night sky lit up with countless stars.

I found it fitting since it is almost Independence Day to call this one "Stars & Strikes".

Last night we went with our neighbors over to a nearby lake in Johnstown for a little fishing excursion. We didn't catch any fish... We caught plenty of mossy plants however! We also got to witness a spectacular Northern Colorado sunset as well. This capture I decided to title "Kissing Clouds".

This photo is shot from the same location. The sun has set even further bringing out more of an orange hue near the mountains from the smoke in the area. Taken on a 30 second exposure, the clouds seem as if they are moving in the photo as well as the water has been smoothed out to a soft sheen.
