Over the weekend, two wildfires burned on the Pawnee National Grassland. The Reno Fire burned 171 acres of public land on the west side of the Grassland. The cause is under investigation. The Coal 16 Fire burned 3.2 acres on the west side of the Pawnee and was caused by recreational shooting.

Anyone who was shooting Sunday in the area one mile east of County Roads 57 and 96 is asked to contact the Grassland enforcement officer at 970-295-6719.

Warmer weather can dry out grasses increasing the risk of fires. Be sure to stay on roads, as hot catalytic converters can start fires in tall grasses. Your extra caution can go a long way to avoid human-caused fires. If you accidentally cause a fire, please do not leave the area unless you need to do so for safety.
