Sure, everyone loves ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, ‘Miracle on 34th Street’, and ‘Elf’ during the holidays; but how about getting out of the house, maybe away from the relatives, and seeing a couple of great R-rated Christmas movies?

I love the gang over at Lyric Cinema Cafe. Great movies, great beer, great cartoons on Saturdays.  The have a great newsletter too, by the way. That’s how I found out that they are so non-pumped for Christmas that they are going to show a couple of movies that don’t necessarily show up on most people’s ‘must-watch’ of the season.

Get set—2003’s ‘Love, Actually’ will be playing December 11th through the 13th. The first thing I thought was, ‘What is the name of that [movie] that they’re making during that movie?’ Of course, the movie has a lot of other storylines about couples’ lives leading up to Christmas. It has Hugh Grant! How can you not like it?

Later this month, it’s ‘Die Hard.’ This will be the one I’ll be going to see!  It’ll be showing December 18th-20th. The 1988 classic about a New York cop coming to visit his estranged wife in California. At her office’s Christmas party, at Nakatomi Plaza. I may dress up as Special Agent Johnson. The OTHER Agent Johnson.

Tickets are $9. Both are totally worth the cost of a stocking-stuffer or two. Get to Old Town, check out all the pretty Christmas lights, then get over to The Lyric for some holiday-stress-relieving fun!
