The plan to improve I-25 took another step closer to becoming a reality with Weld County pledging funds to help add additional lanes. According to the Reporter Herald, the Weld County Board of Commissions announced that they would commit $2 million to the project. With the Northern Colorado population expected to expand drastically over the next several years, an expansion of I-25 is a desperately needed project to alleviate the already congested highway.

The state grants that are being provided by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization, requires a percentage of the funds be matched by local communities that will benefit financially from the I-25 expansion. Weld County's pledge is added to the other communities that have promised money, including $1 million from Windsor, $2 from Loveland and $5 million from Larimer County.
